Khoai tây, cà rốt gọt vỏ, rửa sạch, cắt miếng vừa ăn. Đùi vịt làm thật sạch, rửa nước rồi cũng để ráo và chặt miếng vừa ăn. Gừng cắt lát mỏng, lạp xường cát xéo. Đun nóng dầu ăn trong chảo, cho gừng vào phi thơm rồi thả thịt gà vào đảo đều cho săn và tái chín. Tiếp đó cho khoai tây cùng cà rốt vào đảo đều.
Chế 500ml nước vào, nêm muối, nước mắm và đun sôi thì hạ nhỏ lửa, ninh cho khoai chín nhừ. Sau khi tất cả đã chín thì cho lạp xưởng vào nấu thêm 5 phút và nêm nếm lại gia vị cho vừa miệng là có thể tắt bếp.
